About Charter Day and the Proclamation

On August 29, 1956, fourteen local Pensacola women—including the Mayor’s grandmother, Mrs. Ashton Hayward—founded the Junior Service League of Pensacola. The Mayor’s Charter Day proclamation concludes a week of service, social, and fundraising activity by Junior League members in the Pensacola community. Charter Week activities include the reprinting and relaunch of the sold-out local favorite cookbook, “Some Like It South!”, inducting 75 new members for the 2017-2018 League year, and volunteering as parking attendants at the Blue Wahoo’s games Aug. 21-25 to raise funds for the Little Black Dress Initiative project. Ann Hayward, Mayor Howard’s wife, will be inducted as an Honorary Member of the Junior League of Pensacola.
